Duration: 1 YEAR
In January 2014, Techniskills introduced the NQF Level 2 programme (Refrigeration and Ventilation) to Industry and albeit that Industry was cautious at first, it became extremely popular. Not only did the programme suit Industry’s needs but also allowed for learners to obtain a Qualification. Under guidance of Merseta the wrinkles have been ironed out and presently Groups 3 and 4 are on the programme (12 learners per group). Level 2 led to NQF Level 3 and the first Level 3 class have recently completed the programme and their portfolio’s have been verified by Merseta and found to be in order. Techniskills is therefore proud to say that there have now been two successful Level 2 interventions and 1 Level 3 intervention.
How Learnerships work at Techniskills
There is a contract between the Employer, the Learner and Techniskills that is overseen by Merseta. There are times that, through a Discretionary Grant, Merseta will fund the programme but this is not guaranteed and many companies are funding the training themselves. The responsibility of learning ultimately lies with the learner who has to produce on site evidence of training covered (the company has however to allow for exposure to various facets of the training). The Learner spends 1 week per month at Techniskills where they receive the primary training. Each Monday that they return to the venue is an Assessment day that assesses the Learner’s skills on the the intervention previously covered.
The learnership culminates in a Final Integrated Summative Assessment at the end of the programme which, in the case of the NQF Level 2’s, covers 27 Unit Standards (modules) and 25 Unit Standards on the NQF Level 3 programme.
Upon verification of the learner’s portfolio’s by Merseta, qualification certificates are issued by Merseta.
